The vestibular system is a collection of sensory receptors in the inner ear and the brain that work together to keep an animal standing, walking, or sitting erect.

Humans, like most other animals, possess a vestibular system. Many factors may upset this sensitive system, making it harder to maintain equilibrium.

Dogs usually get vestibular illness abruptly, and the symptoms are rather obvious. It's possible that the dog is dizzy and leaning to one side.

These symptoms are typical of vestibular dysfunction, which may resolve on its own in many cases. When the vestibular system breaks down, it leads to vestibular illness.

The vestibular system helps animals (including humans) keep their bearings and navigate using just head movement.

The vestibulocochlear nerve is a cranial nerve that connects the inner ear to the brainstem, the vestibulocerebellum, and the rest of the brain.

When the vestibular system breaks down, it leads to vestibular illness. The vestibular system regulates equilibrium and eye movement via the central nervous system.
